Popina to Open on Chester Northgate!

Popina, a new wine and cocktail bar from the team behind The Coach House and The Duck & Dagger, will open on 25th April 2026 in the heart of the city.

Located within one of Chester’s busiest squares, alongside the city’s theatre and cinema, Popina has been designed as a relaxed, sociable space for drinks and sharing food - equally suited to a quick glass of wine or a longer evening with friends.

The concept takes light inspiration from the informal drinking spots of ancient Rome, reinterpreted in a modern and understated way. The focus is firmly on creating an atmosphere that feels welcoming, stylish and easy to enjoy, without formality.

At the centre of the offering is a curated drinks list featuring wines, classic and contemporary cocktails, and a selection of premium beers. The food menu is built around sharing, with charcuterie, cheeses and small plates designed to be enjoyed together.

Bread served at Popina will be freshly baked by the chef team at its sister venue, The Duck & Dagger, continuing the group’s emphasis on quality and attention to detail.

The venue itself has been brought to life by local craftsmen and tradespeople, with a design that balances character and comfort. The space has been created to evolve throughout the day and into the evening, offering a natural transition from early drinks to a more lively atmosphere later on.

Popina will open initially with a soft launch, giving guests an early opportunity to experience the venue ahead of a full programme of activity to follow.
