‘Christmas in the City’ Plans Revealed: From Free Parking to Santa’s Enchanted Grotto

Chester is gearing up for a magical festive season as Chester BID unveils its Christmas in the City campaign - including the ever-popular free parking at Chester Racecourse.
From 22 November until Christmas, shoppers will be able to park at Chester Racecourse for free every weekend from 10am, making it more affordable to visit the city centre and soak up the festivities.
This year’s line-up promises extra sparkle, with additional Christmas lights set to brighten up St John Street, St Werburgh Street and Pepper Street, as well as a stunning Christmas tree positioned behind Chester’s much-loved Paddington Bench, creating the perfect photo opportunity at the end of Foregate Street.
Chester will mark the start of the festive season with the 12 Days of Christmas Parade, which Chester BID proudly helps to fund. This spectacular parade is a highlight in Chester’s calendar that draws thousands of visitors each year. Santa’s Enchanted Grotto will also be returning, back for its fifth year with a new theme.
In preparation for an influx of Christmas shoppers, Chester BID will also be completing the BIG BID Christmas Clean throughout November – including jet washing of al fresco areas and cleaning of shop frontages to make sure businesses are shining brightly for the celebrations.
Shoppers can also look forward to a new Christmas Gift Guide featuring seven categories of standout products chosen by businesses, a Shopfront Trail through Chester’s twinkling streets, and even the chance to win a £500 Chester Gift Card in a social media giveaway
